WPC 2016 Day 3: Taking Toronto By Storm

We and thousands of our closest friends (and friends we just haven’t met yet!) are still having a blast at WPC in Toronto! What happened yesterday? Here’s a quick recap from Tuesday:

Why was our CEO Geeman rolling around on the floor at the end of that video? The sheer joy of spending three days straight sharing innovative ideas with like-minded MSPs!

We also gave away $1,000 (U.S. dollars—that’s about $1,300 Canadian) to folks who stopped by our booth, collected thousands more in donations for Doctors Without Borders, and gave in-booth presentations for business and technical best practices for Microsoft partners.… Read more

WPC 2016: Day 2 Rocks!

More awesomeness is still going on in Toronto! We had a great second day at THE BIG EVENT! Here’s your zip-zap recap of WPC from Monday, July 11.

We’re in the thick of the events, which include plenty of informative sessions—best practices, industry trends and the like—both in our booth (#1501, just a reminder… though really, with our giant video screens hanging from the ceiling, you can’t miss it when you’re in the hall.)

The Automation of the Modern MSP

Automation or automatic control, is the use of various control systems for operating equipment such as machinery, processes in factories, boilers and heat treating ovens, switching on telephone networks, steering and stabilization of ships, aircraft and other applications with minimal or reduced human intervention. Some processes have been completely automated.

The biggest benefit of automation is that it saves labor; however, it is also used to save energy and materials and to improve quality, accuracy and precision.Read more

MSPs Talk About the Power of Automation

All processes start as manual ones. OK, that may not actually be true, but when you’re tackling a task for the first time, you probably don’t know that it’s destined to happen a lot in the future. The first time you do it, it’s manual. You may not know every step you’re going to need to take, and you can’t predict it is going to be repeated often. Enter automation.

Only after that task comes up several times do you say, “Huh, how can I make this go faster?… Read more

MSPs Discuss Getting Onboard With The Cloud

The cloud. Either you’re already embracing it as an IT consultant or Microsoft partner, or you know you should and haven’t had the time to make a strategy to focus on it. What’s the best approach?

Recently we spoke with some of our partners to hear their thoughts on trends in the industry, as part of our video series profiling today’s #ModernMSP. Previously MSPs shared their thoughts on What is a modern MSP?

The video shows some thoughts from these innovators about what’s going on in the cloud—a trend that’s here to stay (but, as one partner points out, the opportunity to build a business around it may not be open forever).… Read more

MSPs share: What is a Modern MSP?

There’s a constant shift in what it means to be a managed service provider (or a modern MSP). That’s understandable: customers’ needs are shifting, and you need to shift with them. Ideally, though, you are ahead of the game and can lead them in the direction that they need to go. Who’s doing that?

Our marketing team recently interviewed several of our most innovative partners about how they go about leading their customers and by extension, staying ahead of trends in the industry.… Read more

The Key To IT Upsell Conversations

If you follow our blog, you may have noticed a theme of upselling/cross-selling how-tos and best practices lately. That’s because the upsell conversation with customers is one that’s tricky for many people—especially for IT professionals or SIs who a) don’t think it’s relevant to what they do, b) are technologists first and don’t exactly embrace the role of salesguy, or c) don’t know what to say.

Whether you exclusively do project work, or if you are dipping your toe in managed services (or even if you’ve embraced the idea of managed services), what makes for a great upsell conversation?… Read more

Part 2: Sink, Swim Or Steer The Course Of The Cloud

This is part 2 of a blog series in response to a recent Redmond Channel Partners article. You can read part 1 here!

It’s no secret that just about all MSPs were technologists first—before they started their business. Most MSPs are IT providers at heart whose strength is not in sales and marketing. Even worse, the opportunities from “v1” of the cloud are drying up—not immediately, but we can see that shift happening soon.… Read more

In Memoriam of SQL Server 2005

SQL Server 2005, age 11, passed away on April 12, 2016 at Microsoft HQ. It was the father of several versions of SQL Server, including versions 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016—not to mention Azure SQL.

Born in Redmond, Wash., SQL Server 2005 was the son of SQL Server 2000. He grew up looking to help people “reduce application downtime, increase scalability and performance, and provide tight-yet-flexible security controls,” as once described.

He loved data with a passion and collected all kinds with relish.… Read more

Case Study: Successful Move From Enterprise Vault To Office 365 With Archive Migration-as-a-Service

BitTitan partner CGNET won a project to assess the IT needs of a California-based healthcare organization. During the assessment, CGNET learned that the organization had been using on-prem Exchange, and they calculated that the customer would realize greater organizational resilience by moving email to the cloud. CGNET helped their customer evaluate the top cloud platforms, and determined Office 365 offered the best combination of cost and functionality. This would mean migration from Enterprise Vault. The customer also engaged CGNET for the Office 365 implementation.… Read more
